How Irish Association of Health Stores staff rate what they sell...

Horans Health Store in Listowel

Manager Mary McElligott, sales assistants Catherine Nolan, Charlie Anne Walsh, Tracy Dunne, masseuse and sales assistant Dee Molyneaux and sales assistant and beautician Aisling O’Brien test a natural body wash, amber bracelets, a clear skin complex, a daily moisturiser, teething gel, a natural hair colourant and hay fever remedy:

1. NATURAL BODY WASH

Mary says: “I use Doctor Mahers Eutopia Body Wash as it is made from seaweed, it is 100% natural, extremely moisturising, suitable for all skin types (including sensitive skin) and is anti-ageing. Also it is made in Listowel, what’s not to love?”

2. AMBER BRACELETS

Dee says: “I bought an adult Amber SOS amber bracelet for my mum as she had a recent operation. The relief she has got from wearing the bracelet has been amazing.”

3. NATURAL HAIR COLOURANT

Catherine says: “I use Nature & Care Permanent Hair Colour. It has 100% grey coverage, it is so easy to use and has a nourishing multivitamin oil that leaves my hair shiny and so healthy.”

4. SKIN NOURISHMENT

Charlie Anne says: “I use Viridian Clear Skin Complex as my skin was continuously breaking out. Since taking it my skin is clear, brighter and now I have no spots or blemishes.”

5. HAY FEVER RELIEF

Tracy says: “I can’t be without A. Vogel Pollinosan Hay fever tablets as I am prone to hay fever and this is the only product to help me. I find it gives great relief to my eyes.”

6. TEETHING GEL

Catherine says: “I use Nelson’s Teetha Gel on my seven-month-old I find using a pea-size amount is enough to calm and soothe the tender gum area and keep my little one happy.”

7. FACIAL MOISTURISER

Aisling says: “I love Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Day Cream. As a beautician I find this product really stands out, as it leaves my complexion flawless with a fresh and soothed feeling.”

Restore in Camden St, Dublin

This issue manager Julie Owens, shop assistants Stephen Scally and Alexandra Murray and massage therapist and acupuncturist Mary Coyle of The Restore Clinic review a throat spray, fish oils, crystal deodorant and face cream. Restore recently celebrated their 10th birthday – congratulations!

1. BALANCING CREAM

Stephen says: “I love Melissa Day Cream by Dr Hauschka because it’s a light and fresh cream for my combination skin. The lemon balm has really balanced my skin out, regulating its redness, shine, dry spots and sensitivity.”

2. ESKIMO OIL

Mary says: “Eskimo Brain 3-6-9 capsules give me a great kick of energy, keep my memory sharp as well as protect the joints. I’ve noticed my skin has got better moisture and sheen in it also. They are easy to take and have no nauseating repeats.”

3. ECHINACEA THROAT SPRAY

Alexandra says: “At the change of seasons I sometimes get a sore and irritated throat. The most effective remedy for me is A.Vogel’s Echinacea throat spray which is instantly soothing and relieving, easy to use and sprays directly onto the back of the throat giving instant relief.”

4. STOMACH SOOTHER

Julie says: “I love both the liquid and the powder Molkosan by A.Vogel as they both give such a lovely light feeling to the stomach if feeling bloated. You feel lighter in yourself and it’s a lovely general digestive tonic, plus I recommend it as an easy to take and effective prebiotic while building up and supporting a good probiotic, especially after antibiotics.”

5. COD LIVER OIL

Stephen says: “I love the fact that Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil D3 capsules are so pure, fresh and easily absorbed plus I have really noticed the benefits with my joint health and memory. With their guaranteed high quality, I know I’m setting my day off to a great start without that fishy smell or taste.”

6. VITAMIN D SPRAY

Alexandra says: “Due to my busy lifestyle in which I often don’t get exposure to the sun I need, and especially in Ireland where we don’t get as much sun as I’d like, I use BetterYou Daily Vitamin DLux 3000iu spray. Only one spray is required a day, it has a lovely minty flavour and is compact and easy to keep in my handbag. I prefer to use this spray opposed to capsules or tablets as it delivers the vitamin directly into the bloodstream.”

7. CRYSTAL DEODORANT ROCK

Julie says: “I’m using Alvin Connor’s Crystal Deodorant Rock at the moment. I feel completely confident while still using a natural aluminium-free deodorant. I also like the fact that it’s odourless which really suits if putting on a body lotion or natural perfume. It also lasts for ages so is really good value.”
