Here comes the sun ... hopefully!
After a surprising blast of warm weather in April, we are all looking towards the summer with eager eyes. For those lucky enough to be travelling abroad on holidays this year, your local independent health store has you covered with travel essentials like sun cream, travel-sized bodycare products and, recently, we’ve even started stocking mini pots of jam that are perfect for travelling with when you can’t go without your favourite spread!
Of course, the sun cream shouldn’t just come out of the cupboard or off the shelf when we are travelling abroad. We can be brutal in this country for not looking after our skin and almost gleefully accepting sunburn as a part of life. It needn’t be – and don’t forget you wear your skin every day, so look after it and ask for advice in your local health store.
For us at Health Stores Ireland, April saw the gathering of our Annual General Meeting. This year was the first where we adopted a blended approach, with some retailers dialling in via Zoom to join us.
It worked well and we all came away with plenty of ideas and suggestions for how better to serve you, our loyal customers. We’ve seen a few new members join us in the last month, and we now represent over 200 stores, spread right across Ireland.
If you are sticking in Ireland for a “staycation” this year, then be sure to check out the local health store wherever you are holidaying. You can be sure you will find local produce being given a platform – and what fabulous local produce we have in this country too. It’s been great to see a sort of cross-pollination of cultures over the last few years, especially with things like Irish-made kimchi growing in popularity. At the beginning of the health food trade in Ireland I doubt many people would have known what kimchi was! But that’s Health Stores Ireland for you – always growing, adapting and representing the best of Irish produce.
